There are a lot of items you need in Subnautica 2 but the Sonic Resonator is one of the most important early ones you can get. While primarily used to mine ore, the sonic resonator can also cure Corrupted Blooms, making it a key tool for exploration and story progress. Sadly, obtaining the item isn't that straightforward, as you will need to scan damaged versions of the tool left by other humans to unlock it.
How to Find the Sonic Resonator Blueprint
You only need to scan two sonic resonators to unlock the blueprint. Below are all the locations we've found where you can find them; any two will do.
Note: Most of these are found at early game Blackbox locations, so you will find them naturally as you progress though they are very easy to miss.
Location 1: Anita's Blackbox Cave

Important: You will need to have fabricated the Scanner to get the Sonic Resonator Blueprint.
Find Anita's Blackbox at the big Angel Comb flower, about 150 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod (You can see the plant above). From there, swim west, and you'll hit a fairly large arched cave entrance. Head inside and look right, it's sitting on top of a crate. Easy one to start with. If you have done Anita's Blackbox, then you can also head Northwest (330) for around 170m to get to the cave directly.
Location 2: The Old Habitat (Quaker's Blackbox)

The Old Habitat is about 370 meters north of the Lifepod, and you'll be heading there anyway for Quaker's Blackbox early on.

There are two Static Resonators inside this building. One is immediately to your right as you walk in the door, and the other is straight ahead of you, next to a knocked-over table in the next room. Smash both scans out in one trip.
Location 3: Downed Ship

There is a Sonic Resonator "outside" the downed ship located south, around 195° from the Lifepod. Located on the eastern side, which you can enter from a hole in the side of the building or from underneath. It will be located next to a locked door, as shown above.
Location 4: The Spider Dome (Wander's Blackbox)

Head 240° southwest for about 240 meters and look for a massive coral dome that looks vaguely like a spider (you'll know it when you see it). Just behind Wander's Blackbox, there's an overturned crate with a resonator inside.
How to Craft the Sonic Resonator In Subnautica 2
Here's the annoying bit: the Fabricator in your Lifepod is too basic to craft this. You'll need to build your own base first. Don't worry, though, it doesn't need to be anything fancy.
Step 1: Slap Together a Basic Base
Grab your Habitat Builder Tool and throw up a simple surface base. All you actually need is:
- 1 Room
- 1 Hatch
- 1 or 2 Solar Panels on the roof
Keep it on the surface so the solar panels can actually do their job, though they can be underwater; just make sure they are on top of your base. You can see how much power you are using by being close to your base.
Step 2: Build a Proper Fabricator
Stick a new Fabricator inside the base, this is the one that can actually craft the resonator. You'll need 1 Quartz, 1 Titanium, and 1 Copper to build it.
Step 3: Gather Your Materials

This is the ship we want to aim for to find the Lead.
Here's what you need to craft the Sonic Resonator itself:
- 1 Basic Battery: 2 Copper and 1 Acidic Raion Pouch (grab those from the big pink corals). Worth making a spare while you're at it, since you'll need batteries to recharge the resonator too.
- 2 Titanium Ingots: You can sometimes find these in caches, but honestly, just build a Processor and make your own; it's faster.
- 2 Lead: You can't break the big lead blocks yet, so look for the small loose chunks. Head northeast from the Lifepod about 350 meters until you see a massive ship. Head to the other side and below it to loot Lead. It's worth marking this spot for later, as it's an amazing source of lead.
- 1 Wiring Kit: 1 Copper Wire (2 Copper) and 1 raw Silver. There's a cave just north of the Lifepod with a solid amount of silver if you need it.

What a lead node looks like.
Once you've got everything, head to your base Fabricator (not the Lifepod one) and craft it.
How To Use The Static Resonator In Subnautica 2

Once you have the Sonic Resonator, you will need to use the alternative fire to blow up the ore node, which will let you mine the resources directly into your inventory.
Simple enough. Swim up to a big ore vein, charge up the Sonic Resonator, and watch it explode into chunks you automatically collect as long as you have inventory space. Same deal for clearing Bloom Biofilm and Corrupted Blooms that are blocking your path. Genuinely satisfying once you get going.
And that's it. The Sonic Resonator is one of the most important items in the game, so make sure to get it crafted. Remember to bring a spare battery or two with you on long adventures so you don't get left short when you're on your mining adventures.
