Introduction

Hey everyone, and welcome to the Halls of Atonement dungeon guide for season 3 of The War Within! In this guide I’ll be going over the abilities of all the trash mobs and bosses throughout the dungeon, as well as how I recommend you handle them. I’ll be focusing on the mythic and M+ versions of the dungeon, but most of this article will apply to both normal and heroic difficulties as well. I’ll also be including my recommended, PUG friendly route via the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon for anyone interested.

Some background on myself, my name is Tactyks and I am an avid M+ player, achieving the 0.1% M+ title in every season it has existed, as well as competing in The Great Push in season 4 of Shadowlands. I also create M+, Raid, and tank guide content on my YouTube and Twitch channels, so be sure to stop by and say hi!

Video Guide

Halkias Trash

  • Beware of the stacking damage amp applied to tanks via Anima Tipped Blade and use a Magic dispel to remove them when possible
  • Tanks make sure you get aggro on these ranged mobs as they spam Shoot onto their current target
  • Interrupt every cast of Loyal Beasts to prevent nearby Gargons from enraging
  • Shoot targets random players, beware of this extra damage when other abilities are going off and use defensives as needed
  • Focus down nearby Houndmasters to remove the Spirit Bond buff from the Gargons
  • Serrated Claws stacks up a nasty bleed (Gushing Wound) on the tank, watch your stack count and use bleed cleanses or kite if needed to drop the debuff
  • Wicked Bolt targets a random player, use any spare interrupts on this cast
  • Mark of Obliteration debuffs a random player, use a Magic dispel to prevent the damage or move away from your allies and use a defensive
  • Siphon Life channels into a random player, use an interrupt or CC to stop it
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Will occasionally turn to stone while out of combat due to the Stone Watcher passive, preventing the mob from being hit but also allowing players to run by with aggroing it
  • Stone Fist targets the tank, use a defensive and watch where you get knocked
  • Powerful Swipe aims a cone at the tank, point this away from your group and move out
  • Disrupting Screech hits players within 40yds, make sure to stop casting to prevent the interrupt
  • These mobs have the Skittish passive, so be ready to use CCs when they get close to 30% health to prevent them from pulling extra packs

Also in this area are 3 Shards of Halkias, which will spawn the first boss once all of them have been defeated.

  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Thrash channels for heavy group damage over 8s, be ready with defensives and healing CDs
  • Sin Quake spawns a circle under all players, make sure you avoid them

Halkias Boss Fight

After defeating all 3 Shards of Halkias, Halkias himself will become active after a short delay. A few seconds after pulling the boss a large circle will form around him, and it’s important to stay within it at all times otherwise you’ll be feared by the Magic debuff Sinlight Visions. This procs every few seconds so if you’re quick you can dispel a debuffed player and they can run back to safety, but it’s best to avoid this happening entirely.

To reduce your space there are 2 abilities that create puddles of Glass Shards. The first is the tank hit Crumbling Slam, which does a 6yd AoE hit around the target, creating a puddle while also doing a sonic hit to the group. This AoE follows the tank so you can place this over existing puddles to conserve space.

The other area denial ability is Heave Debris, which creates a 6yd circle under a random player that leaves behind a puddle along with the same sonic group hit. This is baited on player locations and is something you avoid, so try and bait these near existing puddles to conserve space.

Regardless of how much space you save, you’ll need to move the boss with your party throughout the encounter to make sure you have room to dodge Refracted Sinlight. This is cast at 100 energy and creates 4 beams that rotate around the boss for 15s, randomly switching directions to try and catch players off guard. You want to make sure you have ample space to avoid the beams without needing to walk through puddles, so watch the energy bar on the boss and move if needed before it fills.

Echelon Trash

  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Mortal Strike targets the tank, use a defensive and be aware of the large healing reduction debuff
  • Turn to Stone stuns all nearby enemies for 8s, avoid it or use a Magic dispel to remove the stun
  • Make sure your group is loosely spread to avoid cleaving Hurl Glaive
  • Ankle Bite targets a random player, use bleed cleanses or defensives if your stacks get too high

Echelon Boss Fight

To summon the boss you’ll need to click on the nearby door, causing him to burst out and begin the encounter. His first ability is Blood Torrent, which creates a puddle under a random player, so try and bait these casts near existing puddles when possible and avoid the effect itself.

Throughout the encounter the boss will use Stone Call, summoning 6 Undying Stonefiends from the gates around the arena that tanks will want to pick up. We found the easiest way to do this was to have the boss and your party positioned somewhere towards the middle of the room. These mobs will just spam cast Villainous Bolt at the tank, so interrupt stragglers to group them up and use AoE or individual CCs to reduce damage intake.

When Stonefiends are pushed to 0 health they don’t die, instead they trigger an AoE hit in Volatile Transformation and then begin to regenerate, returning to full health after 30s. Beware of this extra AoE damage as it can be dangerous if players are hit with another ability at the same time.

The other important mechanic of this fight is how to clear out regenerating Stonefiends so your group doesn’t get overwhelmed. This is done by a combo of abilities the boss casts at 100 energy, starting with Flesh to Stone which targets a random non-tank player, slowing them by 25% per second until they are stunned, which also stuns any other players within 5yds. After this stun the boss casts Stone Shattering Leap at the stunned player, dealing damage in an 8yd AoE around them, applying a DoT and knocking back any players hit, plus destroying any regenerating Stonefiends in the circle.

For optimal positioning you’ll want to have your group standing near where the Stonefiends are regenerating, then have the player targeted by Flesh to Stone position themselves to hit as many of the mobs as possible while the rest of the party moves away from the AoE hit.

High Adjudicator Aleez Boss Fight

Occasionally the boss will debuff 2 players with Unstable Anima, pre-spread to prevent this DoT from cleaving and quickly dispel one to reduce the group damage intake. The player who does not get dispelled will need to use a defensive or get some extra healing until the healer’s dispel is back off cooldown. Warlock imp dispel and dwarf racial can also be used to remove one of the debuffs which is quite useful!

When Spectral Procession is cast a Ghostly Parishioner spawns in the centre of the room and fixates a random player. Each second this mob is alive it deals increasing shadow damage to the group, however it cannot be killed as it is immune to damage. To remove it you’ll need to have the fixated player kite it into one of the open Vessels of Atonement spread throughout the room, causing it to seal the mob inside of it when touched. There are 4 total Vessels in the room, and slowly over time closed vessels will be replaced with new ones, just make sure you check where they are so you don’t accidentally kite towards one that is already closed!

Outside of that you’ll just want to keep interrupts on Anima Bolt to help reduce tank damage, as well as avoid the circles created by Anima Fountain.

Lord Chamberlain Trash

  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Cleave down the neutral Tormented Souls to reduce the healing and number of Manifestations spawned by Dark Communion
  • Disperse Sin does a 4yd AoE around a random Manifestation, avoid this hit and the puddle it creates
  • Display of Power debuffs all players, use the damage and healing amp to your advantage and make sure you spread out before it expires
  • Beware if you are fixated by Mark of Envy and use slows or other CCs to prevent the mob from reaching you

Lord Chamberlain Boss Fight

Throughout this fight the boss will throw around the 4 statues using Telekinetic Toss, so make sure you stay away from them and move out of this line attack when it happens. You’ll also want to try and make sure you don’t aim it at other statues, as this causes them to bounce and deal additional group damage.

To make this more difficult you’ll need to watch out for the random target frontal in Unleashed Suffering, plus you also need to avoid the circles created around the boss and all 4 statues by Erupting Torment.

When the boss reaches 70% and 40% health he starts a combo of attacks, teleporting to the centre of the room and pulling all 4 statues towards him before shooting them in a straight line away. After this he begins to channel Ritual of Woe for 10s, shooting a beam towards all 4 statues that deals a tick of raid damage each second. This can be intercepted by a player, dealing the same damage to only them instead, and if you play close enough to the boss you can actually intercept 2 beams with a single player. I recommend having your tank intercept 2 beams, then have either another player with a major defensive or immunity soak the other 2 or split them between 2 players with personals.

Outside of this, tanks have a nasty debuff in Stigma of Pride which deals increasing damage with each tick over the 18s duration, so you want to make sure you save a defensive to cover the later parts of this debuff.
