Stat Priorities

Stat Ranking

In general you want to prioritize stats in the following order:

  1. Item Level
  2. Crit
  3. Haste
  4. Versatility
  5. Mastery

To optimize damage, it is essential to sim yourself, as what gear is best for you can change with every new item you receive. Defensively item level is almost always the best option, followed by secondaries in the above order.

Stat Outline

Haste, directly and indirectly, works with Vengeance’s toolkit, directly reducing the cooldown of Fracture, Immolation Aura, and Demon Spikes. Indirectly it increases your soul generation, which feeds into the cooldown reduction of Feed the Demon, the uptime of Calcified Spikes, Infernal Armor, and Painbringer, as well as the number of stacks of Frailty you can stack up. The introduction of the Aberrus tier set focusing primarily around generating Soul Fragments haste becomes even more desirable in patch 10.1.

Crit interacts with the Volatile Flameblood talent to increase your overall Fury generation. It will also grant you parry, which, paired with Demon Spikes and Illuminated Sigils, can give you a very high parry chance, which is especially strong against many enemies. With the loss of the Vault of Incarnates tier set the extra Fury generation from Crit makes it a much more desirable stat.

Versatility is a straightforward power boost. It is decently strong and somewhat smoothens damage intake and self-sustain.

Mastery increases the Armor Demon Spikes gives based on your Agility. Starting in Dragonflight, it now also gives you half the bonus armor you get outside Demon Spikes. As well as granting attack power, and, if you picked the Pursuit talent, it will also give you speed. It is Vengeance’s weakest stat by a significant margin. Unless you are only prioritizing damage, it’s a stat you want to avoid unless it comes with an item-level upgrade.

Races

Demon Hunters can only be Night Elves or Blood Elves. As it stands Night Elf offers a lot of defensive value from the 2% dodge. Stack this on top of a lot of Critical Strike, Demon Spikes and Illuminated Sigils to reach even crazier levels of Parry and Dodge.
