Elden Ring: Nightreign – Darkdrift Knight Boss Guide

The Darkdrift Knight Expedition in Nightreign has you squaring off against the one-armed centaur — Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow. He combines spear assaults with fast movement and holy magic, keeping players on their toes from the very first second of the fight.

Fulghor punishes ranged characters with wide-reaching combos, roll-catching attacks, and massive AoE sweeps. It is recommended that you bring heavy hitting melee characters like Wylder or Raider who can easily interrupt his moves and consistently stagger him for riposte opportunities.

Phase 1 & Spear Moveset

Fulghor’s most frequent opening is a triple spear swipe that ends with a wide shockwave. He might even drag the spear along the ground for a delayed final hit. To avoid this, dodge only after the second swing, timing your roll for the final horizontal sweep or stomp. Don’t attack mid-combo and wait for the full animation to complete.

Staying as close to him as possible during the fight is more effective as he will only perform his close-range spear attacks, which are easier to avoid. This means playing with characters like Wylder or Raider is highly effective, thanks to the massive damage they can dish out with greatswords/colossal weapons.

An attack that you have to persistently keep watch of is the holy slam attack. Fulghor telegraphs his attack when he raises his spear and slams it into the ground, creating glowing runes that erupt into spears under players and across the arena.

This is the time when Fulghor’s lightning weakness will come into play. Connecting a well-timed charged lightning strike or heavy lightning weapon hit while he has his spear up will break his stance. If you have a Recluse or Revenant on your team, they can easily get in some lightning spells to do the job.

Be careful even after you break his stance, though, since he will still do a follow-up slam — which you can easily dodge since he raises both of his front legs before slamming his spear into the ground.

Holy Charge with Fissures

If, however, you fail to stagger him during the spear slam attack, he will go into an aggressive phase where he’ll sprint around the entire arena two to three times, creating fissures from which holy energy erupts.

While the fissures themselves are easy to dodge with the right timing, the main problem is Fulghor himself charging straight towards you, which you’ll need to dodge very precisely. You can either use the surge sprint to strafe horizontally or roll straight into him as he approaches to avoid your hitbox getting clipped.

Phase Two – Darkdrift Claw

At around half health, the Champion of Nightglow unleashes a new phase. His amputated left arm transforms into a massive claw imbued with dark energy, drastically increasing his aggression and coverage.

Using his newly transformed claw, he’ll do fast, wide sweeps that catch players trying to stay close. Fulghor will often chain these into his spear attacks or jump slams. To avoid damage, roll into him rather than away from the claw, similar to how you dodged his charges.

Fulghor will also jump and smash the claw into the ground, releasing a circular shockwave.

This move has a slow windup, but the shockwave can hit you even from a medium distance. You can roll through the move as he hits the ground or simply jump at the same time. There are multiple animations for this claw slam, which you will need to evade accordingly. This is why it’s important to use characters that have high mobility — like Wylder with his grappling hook or Duchess with her extremely swift dodges.

Once you successfully evade the attack, Fulghor will remain stationary for a long period of time, giving you a great opportunity to follow up with as many attacks as you can connect in that window.

Victory

Fulghor can feel overwhelming at first with how fast paced the encounter is, but once you learn to read between his moves and exploit his lightning weakness, the fight will start to open up. Stick to heavy hitting characters like Wylder, stay close to him, memorize his patterns and slowly but surely, you’ll conquer the Champion of Nightglow.
