Whether you're charging headfirst into a boss, manipulating the battlefield from range, or commanding spirits from beyond, NightReign offers eight distinct classes, called Nightfarers, to match the style of every type of player. Here's how each class plays, the abilities they bring, and what playstyle they’re best suited for.

We will also be ranking how good they are in the game!

Tier Nightfarer
S Executor, Revenant, Ironeye
A Wylder, Duchess, Recluse
B Raider, Guardian

Executor - S Tier

Abilities:

  • Passive – Tenacity: Gain a short boost to attack power and stamina recovery after recovering from status effects.
  • Character Skill – Cursed Sword: Ready a cursed blade that can deflect enemy attacks. Repeated deflections awaken its true form, enabling devastating strikes. You cannot run while it is equipped.
  • Ultimate – Aspects of the Crucible: Beast: Transform into a primordial beast with unique melee attacks that consume your Ultimate Gauge. Lasts 15 seconds at most.

Executor is all about style, timing, and maximizing risk-reward. With powerful bleed synergy and punishing stances, it's made for players who like fast, lethal duels. Furthermore, his Cursed Sword lets you parry almost any attack in the game and can cause the enemy to falter, dealing astronomical damage. He also boasts arguably the best Ultimate in the game. Executor is your guy if you are a Sekiro veteran and love the parrying playstyle.

Revenant - S Tier

Abilities:

  • Passive – Necromancy: Raise ghostly enemies as temporary allies. It can also detonate corpses.
  • Character Skill – Summon Spirit: Choose between Helen (agile), Frederick (tanky), or Sebastian (supportive) to summon as companions.
  • Ultimate – Immortal March: Grants temporary immortality to self and allies; summons become enhanced.

Who is she for?

Revenant is the best Nightfarer for crowd control. All of your summons can do great damage to enemies and can wipe out entire fleets of smaller enemies. The summons also distract bosses who usually focus on taking them out first, opening the bosses up for punishment from the rest of your team. Revenant is the ideal choice for players who love running multiple summons in Elden Ring.

Ironeye - S Tier

ironeye

Abilities:

  • Passive – Eagle Eye: Enhances item discovery and loot drops from marked enemies.
  • Character Skill – Marking: Marks enemies with a dagger to break their poise and expose weak spots, amplifying damage dealt by him and allies.
  • Ultimate – Single Shot: Unleashes an unstoppable strike that tears through everything in its path, dealing massive damage

Who is he for?

Ironeye is a precision-based archer who supports allies by exposing enemy weaknesses and delivering high-impact ranged damage. This Nightfarer is best for players who enjoy staying mobile while tactically dismantling enemies. Ironeye is one of the best supports in the game because he does not have to be close to enemies to take them on and can revive allies from a distance. He is also the best Ranged character in Nightreign. His character marks the first time the bow and arrow are viable in a Soulsborne.

Wylder - A Tier

wylder

Abilities:

  • Passive – Sixth Sense: Provides a one-time save from a fatal strike, allowing players to cheat death once per run.
  • Character Skill – Claw Shot: Grapple onto enemies or terrain to close gaps quickly.
  • Ultimate – Onslaught Stake: Fires a short-range, exploding bolt from Wylder's wrist crossbow.

Who is he for?

Wylder is the Nightfarer everyone starts with in Elden Ring: Nightreign. He offers a balanced toolkit with strong melee presence and mobility. He is perfect for newcomers who may not have as much experience with other Soulsborne games. For those who have been in the Dark Souls pipeline, Wylder’s playstyle echoes the Knight or Vagabond from previous Soulsborne titles — effective in any scenario without being overly specialized.

Duchess - A Tier

Abilities:

  • Passive – Magnificent Pose: Reduces stamina cost for attacking and dodging, while enabling consecutive rapid dodges.
  • Character Skill – Restage: Deals the last few seconds of damage from both you and allies to a nearby enemy once more, effectively doubling burst damage when timed correctly.
  • Ultimate – Finale: Cloaks you and nearby teammates, briefly turning you invisible.

Who is she for?

Duchess rewards high game sense and awareness, being agile and able to get up close and personal with her attacks. She is great for dealing consistent damage because of how her ability can replay damage onto the enemy. Additionally, her reduced stamina cost and unique dodge mechanics allow her to get in and out of encounters quickly. She is great for players who panic roll after getting too close during every boss encounter, as she excels in escaping precarious situations while dealing rapid damage.

Recluse - A Tier

duchess ult 2

Abilities:

  • Passive – Elemental Defense: Collects elemental traces left by enemies hit with magic-based attacks, restoring Focus Points and enabling powerful combined-element spells when three are collected.
  • Character Skill – Magic Cocktail: Combines collected elemental residues to create potent spells, with effects varying based on the combination of elements.
  • Ultimate – Soulblood Song: Marks nearby enemies with blood sigils; attacks on these marked enemies by Recluse or allies restore both HP and FP, enhancing team survivability.

Who is she for?

Recluse is the spellcaster of Nightreign. She is a hybrid caster focused on environmental control and clever spell combinations. Rather than memorizing fixed spells, you're adapting on the fly with volatile concoctions and anything you pick up in the world. She is best for those who enjoyed magic and Arcane builds in the base Elden Ring.

Raider - B Tier

raider

Abilities:

  • Passive – Fighter’s Resolve: Increases damage output as Raider takes damage, encouraging an aggressive playstyle.
  • Character Skill – Retaliate: Delivers a thunderous strike against enemies while reducing incoming damage, scaling with the amount of damage taken.
  • Ultimate – Totem Stela: Summons a towering tombstone that blocks enemy attacks, provides high ground, and boosts the strength of nearby allies.

Who is he for?

This Nightfarer thrives in the thick of combat. Built to get hit and hit back harder, Raider encourages reckless aggression that becomes more effective the longer you’re alive. He is the definition of a tank with abilities that increase the team’s overall survivability. He’s perfect for fans of Strength builds in Elden Ring or anyone who ran Greatswords in Dark Souls.

Guardian - B Tier

raider 1

Abilities:

  • Passive – Steel Guard: Allows you to plant your feet and brace with a shield, enhancing your defensive stance. It prevents you from being moved or knocked back while blocking against heavy attacks.
  • Character Skill – Whirlwind: Sprouts ethereal wings, generating a strong cyclone that affects all nearby foes, dealing damage in a 360-degree radius. Effective against clusters of enemies.
  • Ultimate – Wings of Salvation: Leaps into the air and then dives back down, creating a protective area upon landing.

Who is he for?

Guardian is the archetypal tank. He provides excellent defense, crowd control, and strong team synergy. You’re the anchor in chaotic fights, drawing attention and keeping your team alive. Perfect for anyone who loves Greatshields, the Tower Knight, or pure defensive roles.

As we discussed at the start, each playable character in the game brings its own distinct flavour, so make sure to try them all out. We hope this guide will give you a better idea of which ones you want to try first!
