In addition to operating a team of competitive players and creators within MMO & RPG titles, Method also operates fan-favourite gaming and esports destinations including Method.gg and Softres.it. Our sites are visited by millions of users who come for our world class educational content but also appreciate our custom tools, such as our Dune Awakening Deep Desert Companion. We’re a small, fast team that cares deeply about performance, quality, reliability, and the user experience.
We are recruiting a Web Developer to join our team and help us build some awesome stuff here at Method. The majority of your time will be spent working on the development of new features and tools for our website network but you will also have the opportunity to get involved in other technical projects such as those supporting our competitive teams.
You will work alongside an experienced and enthusiastic team of developers that all share a deep passion for gaming and in particular, MMO & RPG gaming.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement CRUD features end-to-end (DB schema → backend logic → UI).
- Build and maintain PHP services, APIs, and web apps (framework experience welcome but not required).
- Make use of JavaScript to enhance web page features and user experience.
- Write optimised SQL (indexes, query tuning) for high-traffic usage.
- Create accessible HTML with basic CSS for user-facing pages.
- Able to work independently and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ship features.
REQUIREMENTS
- Competent PHP developer, understanding of OOP schema and standard formatting guidelines.
- JavaScript (vanilla or a light framework), build and maintain tools, and JSON APIs.
- Competent SQL across schema design, query writing, and performance optimisation.
- Strong HTML and basic CSS fundamentals.
- Version control with Git and comfortable with PR-based workflows.
- Familiarity with secure coding practices (input validation, auth, basic OWASP awareness).
- Interest in gaming and/or esports.
NICE-TO-HAVE EXPERIENCE
- PHP frameworks (Laravel, Symfony, Slim, etc.).
- Caching & performance (Redis, query caching, CDN basics).
- Working with third-party APIs common in gaming (Twitch, YouTube, Discord, Battle.net).
- Knowledge of, and interest in, MMOs & RPGs such as World of Warcraft
