Boss Strategy

This guide focuses on the Heroic Tideress encounter in Ashenvale but also works for the normal version.

heroic tideress map

Minis in Tideress’s army

  • Blizzard - Brittle Ice
  • Earth Elemental - Obsidian Shard
  • Frostwolf Shaman - Lightning Mastery
  • Harpies - Talon Dive
  • Molten Giant - Blood of the Mountain
  • Murloc Tidehunters - Morelocks
  • Prowler - Predatory Instincts

Other minis and map mechanics

At 50% Health, Tideress submerges and splits into three smaller versions of itself, with one major difference, as the Tideress minions do not have an anti-air attack at all. These smaller bosses attack each lane, while the main Tideress’s zone will pulse, dealing 200 Elemental damage every 2 seconds in a radius of 10 from the boss. The main Tideress can still be damaged while submerged, but the pulsing and the attacking Tideress minions make it difficult to keep any minis alive to hit it.

After all three Tideress minions have been defeated, the main Tideress re-emerges and the pulsing will stop. In Heroic, the Tideress minions will further split into three chunks of goo before their final defeat.

Tideress:

  • 5200 health
  • Resistant
  • Water Bolt: 160 Elemental damage, 1.8 seconds attack speed, 9 range
  • Cleave: 160 Elemental damage, 1.7 seconds attack speed, 4 range, 120 degree arc, 6.5 radius, cannot hit flying minis

Tideress minion:

  • 1600 Health
  • Resistant
  • Boss
  • Cleave: 160 Elemental damage, 1.7 seconds attack speed, 4 range, 120 degree arc, 6.5 radius, cannot hit flying minis at all

Tideress minion goo:

  • 900 health
  • Resistant
  • Regular mini
  • Attack: 180 Elemental damage, 1.5 seconds attack speed, melee range, cannot hit flying minis at all

General strategy

There are two main ways to beat Tideress. The first option is to take the Towers, push Tideress to 50% health, defend against the Tideress minions, and do another push to beat the boss. The second option is to push hard at Tideress and kill it while it is submerged.

The first option can be done significantly underleveled and without talents, whereas the second option requires some talents and around even level minis.

If you go for the Towers, you want to use primarily flying damage dealers because they are strong against Tideress minions, and an unbound tank to distract the Towers. Do not push too hard through the middle at start so that you won’t deal too much damage to Tideress too early.

Banshee is also excellent in this map because of the sweet Molten Giants that can be stolen.

The single-push strategy also relies on Banshee: you want to steal the first Molten Giant, wherever it comes from. Use the Molten Giant to tank and attack Tideress with poison and Meat Wagons (Meat Wagons remain outside the pulsing damage while Tideress is submerged). Use Cheat Death as appropriate to keep your army alive.
