Boss Strategy

This guide focuses on the Heroic Maiev encounter in Ashenvale but also works for the normal version.

heroic maiev map

Minis in Maiev’s army

  • Abomination - Fresh Meat
  • Angry Chickens - Furious Fowl
  • Blizzard - Brittle Ice
  • Darkspear Troll - Headhunting
  • Drake - Engulfing Flames
  • Goblin Sappers - Rocket Boots
  • Huntress - Darnassian Steel

Other minis and map mechanics

Maiev provides Stealth to her entire army.

Maiev summons two Prowlers every 90 seconds (at 3:30, 2:00, and 0:30) from the building in the middle. In Heroic, she also summons a Huntress with the Darnassian Steel talent together with the Prowlers.

There is also one Prowler on the right lane at the start of the fight, but it will not respawn.

Maiev:

  • 5200 health
  • Stealth
  • Melee (cleave): 180 Physical damage, 1.1 seconds attack speed, 2.5 range, 120 degrees arc, 4 radius, can hit both ground and flying minis
  • Knives (360 degrees): 150 Physical damage, 6 radius, 6 seconds cooldown

General strategy

The strongest mini against the recurring double Prowler and Huntress push is Molten Giant. Send one out at the start and be ready to play more when the other sets attack at 2:00 and 0:30.

After handling the initial attack, keep pushing up the left lane and take the Tower in the top-left corner. Attack Maiev from there.

Take the chests as often as possible and keep an eye out for Goblin Sappers: you need to catch them with area damage or spells because they will not break their Stealth by attacking your minis. Chain Lightning is great against them, and Bat Rider’s flame pool can also sometimes kill them while Bat Rider is shooting at something else. Dire Batlings can detect them, but they are not that strong against Maiev’s other minis.

If you get the opportunity, capture the right Tower too, but prioritize taking the chest.
