Boss Strategy
This guide focuses on the Heroic Herod encounter in Lordaeron but also works for the normal version.
Minis in Herod’s army
- Blizzard
- Drake
- Footmen
- Frostwolf Shaman
- Mountaineer
- Pyromancer
- Warsong Grunts
The campaign version of Herod, both Normal and Heroic, is unique in that Herod cannot get any gold. It cannot play the minis in its deck and the entire encounter is fully scripted.
Other minis and map mechanics
Two Footmen and two Shaman spawn every 40 seconds on the left lane (at 3:30, 2:50, 2:10, and so on).
One Warsong Grunt and two Pyromancers spawn every 40 seconds on the right lane, starting at 3:10 (at 3:10, 2:30, 1:50, and so on).
Herod:
- 10,140 health (Normal: 6760 health)
- Melee: 165 Physical damage, 1.25 seconds attack speed, cannot hit flying minis (Normal: 110 damage, Surges and Quests: 132 damage)
- Ranged attack: 165 Physical damage, 1.75 seconds attack speed, 8 range (Normal: 110 damage, Surges and Quests: 132 damage)
- Whirlwind: 105 Physical damage every 0.25 seconds, 12 seconds cooldown, 5 radius (Normal: 70 damage, Surges and Quests: 84 damage)
- In Heroic, the Whirlwind deals +20% more damage each time (up to 5 stacks) and Herod’s aggro range grows by 9 after Whirlwind is used
General strategy
Because the encounter is fully scripted, there is a full solution to it.
Send Harpies and Angry Chickens up the right lane. Use an Unbound tank to make Herod use its Whirlwind ability so that it will be on cooldown when your damage dealers arrive.
At 3:10, Polymorph the Pyromancers and then kill them with Blizzard.
If your level were too low to kill Herod with the first attack, repeat it.
