Have you been in a dungeon recently and a random pack of mobs that were nowhere near any player in your group have decided to run over and start attacking you without any idea why or how they possibly could have been pulled? We think we might have the answer for that.
Recently, players have had access to The War Within Season 1 Dungeons on Mythic+ difficulty. During which, a group of players in the Momentus guild noticed an issue with the Authority of Storms enchant randomly pulling extra packs from across the room.
It turns out that the Authority of Storms weapon enchant potentially has a range of 100 yards and has been found to pull packs that your group isn’t in combat with from a significant distance away. This can be frustrating for players as this can cause multiple wipes throughout their key and very negatively impact your ability to time the key.
In the image below you can see a pack in The Necrotic Wake getting pulled from across the room when nobody is anywhere near them. After looking into a warcraftlogs replay and investigating the log for what could have initiated combat with them, the group figured out that it was the Authority of Storms enchant that pulled the pack. It was the first and only damage source on the pack.
They were running a few keys with the same group, and had been swapping trinkets, questioning talents or whether players were just making mistakes, but none of that fixed the issue. Because it happened across a few keys, and felt like it was completely random when it happened, it can be very frustrating.
It doesn’t feel like this is intended, and we wanted to share this information in case it helped you solve some of your own confusion, and maybe prevent some guild arguments of who keeps pulling extra packs (it probably wasn’t the Warlock this time).
This isn’t the first time that something like this has happened, it was a common issue for Hunters in Patch 10.0.7 of Dragonflight with the Onyx Annulet ring when using a particular gem that would also pull extra packs without any control over it.
Hopefully this either gets fixed, or you now know which enchantment to avoid in Mythic+ to prevent pulling extra packs when you really don’t want to.
