Method video boss guides brought to you by Crzypck in partnership with Kingston FURY.

Easy Mode

  • Dodge Swirls and Scorchtail Crash (shadow + magma waves)
  • Soak Coiling Eruption circles (when they are ready) with at least 2 extra players
  • Don’t run into regular circles on players (or you might get killed instantly)
  • Be prepared for Soak and Scorchtail Crash overlapping
  • Stack up in melee for Serpent’s Fury casts for extra healing

Mechanics

Coiling Eruption

The Heroic circles around players (Coiling Flames), now upon expiration, turn into Coiling Eruption. This is a soakable circle that after 4 seconds will explode and deals lethal damage that can be reduced by players standing within the circle.

Strategy

Volcoross Mythic is a very simple fight that only brings one new mechanic compared to the Heroic version! It is probably the easiest 3rd or 4th boss ever, so do not expect to spend a lot of time on this boss.

The content of this guide will add several pointers on how to make this fight less chaotic. However, it's important to keep in mind that this fight can also be executed ‘on the fly’ because there is no real adjustment compared to Heroic difficulty.

Before you begin, split the team into 2 equal teams (just like on heroic), but try to optimise defensive abilities (such as Darkness, AMZ, Barrier or SLT) so that each group has some, because Serpent's fury damage ramps up the longer the fight goes on. You can also attempt to make an even spread of melee and ranged, to make soaking require slightly less movement, but this is not vital.

Dealing with Coiling Eruption Soaks

The most important thing in this entire fight, that will cause the most deaths overall, is players running into a player’s circle to soak Coiling Eruptions before it turns into a soak.

As you already know, on Heroic difficulty the player first gets a large circle that shrinks over time; the smaller it gets, the more damage it does. On Mythic Volcoross, once the circle is small, it can kill a tank within 2 seconds! This simply means that the players with circles need to make sure to stay away from others (and that others stay away from them), and as they are close to turning into the soakable circles, move towards players without touching them. You have 4 seconds to soak, which is plenty of time and there is absolutely no need to run into it too early.

The mechanic’s visual changes when the soak is available.

You always want the maximum amount of players to soak, at least 2 per soak, to minimise damage taken spikes and to not fall behind on healing because of it.

General Positioning Advice

Mythic Volcoross General Positioning

You want the players with circles to always stay to the side of the raid. This will help you to deal with the Scorchtail Crash in the most natural way.

If players with circles get the Scorchtail Crash shadow on them, they will simply run towards the raid and naturally be in a perfect soak position.

Alternatively, if the players without circles get the Scorchtail Crash shadow, they will naturally move towards the circle players on the outside and meet up just in time for the soaks.

Once the raid splits up, this changes slightly.

Groups Soaks and Splitting Up

Mythic Volcoross Group Splits

You will first do the big soak with your assigned groups. After which, stack up in melee during Serpent’s Fury for extra healing, and afterwards several players will get affected by circles.

Unlike at the start of the fight, here it's best for the players with circles to hug the puddle, with everyone else standing close to them.

This way it's likely you will get the Scorchtail Crash shadow cast on top of the entire group, meaning you can just dodge together and soak afterwards.

You basically repeat this all the way until the end. Depending on your raid’s DPS, you may end up grouped with the entire raid again for the final push. In that case, you simply do the initial positioning.

Important things to know for Mythic Volcoross:

  1. If you immune the soak, you will die the next time you soak. So only use it as a last resort, and do not soak the next one if you did use an immunity.
  2. The soak circles are not allowed to overlap, if you do that it will trigger a wipe mechanic.
  3. If you already have a medium or small circle, and you see Tail Smash is about to happen, you instantly know that you will have to be soaking and dodging at the same time (if the Tail Smash is on your side of the room).

Lastly, I suggest everyone starting on this boss to simply try doing it freestyle. As long as your players do not kill themselves by pre-running into the circles, it’s a very easy fight overall with no complicated mechanics; so trying to follow a specific pattern or positioning may slow down progression. If you notice that you constantly die to Scorchtail Crash overlaps, then I suggest that you assign rules/spots for circle players in order to minimise the randomness of the fight.
