Introduction

Hey everyone, and welcome to the Black Rook Hold M+ guide for season 3 of Dragonflight! In this article I’ll be covering the abilities of all the trash mobs and bosses throughout the dungeon, as well as how I recommend you deal with them. I will also be including a recommended, PUG friendly route via the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon for anyone interested.

A bit about me, my name is Tactyks and I am an avid M+ player, achieving every 0.1% M+ title that has existed as well as competing in The Great Push in season 4 of Shadowlands. I also create M+ and Raid guide content on my YouTube and Twitch channels, so be sure to stop by and say hi!

Video Guide

Amalgam of Souls Trash

  • Soul Blade targets a random player, stop casts by using a CC or dispel the magic DoT it applies
  • Soul Blast targets a random player, interrupt as many as you can
  • These mobs are immune to CC
  • Either focus down the mob when Sacrifice Soul starts, or use things like knockbacks/line of sight to move packs out of their 10yd damage reduction.
  • This mini boss is immune to CC, located down the right path
  • Tanks point the Strike Down frontal away from the group, also note that you can step backwards out of range of this frontal to avoid the debuff yourself
  • Loosely spread to minimize bounces of Glaive Toss

In addition, there is another mini boss located down the left path which you will not engage with.

  • This mini boss is immune to CC, located down the left path
  • Spirit Blast targets a random player, interrupt this above Soul Blast
  • Soul Echoes debuffs a random player, the circles drop each second and explode after a delay, so slowly move these away from your party. Use a magic dispel if anyone is hit.

Amalgam of Souls Boss Fight

Tanks face the boss away from the group and move out of the Reap Soul frontal.

Loosely spread and stay away from Swirling Scythe area denial.

If debuffed with Soul Echoes, slowly move out of the ground effect and avoid your party for the duration.

At 50% the boss uses Call Souls, make sure you kill these before they reach the boss, using slows and CCs as needed.

After all souls are defeated, the boss will cast a large party hit in Soul Burst, increased by 30% per soul that reached it, so be sure to use a defensive here. Afterwards the boss returns to its normal phase.

Illysanna Ravencrest Trash

  • Very low HP mobs
  • Tanks be aware of your Soul Venom stacks and use a defensive if no magic dispel is available at higher stack counts
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Tanks be aware of your Soul Venom stacks and use a defensive if no magic dispel is available at higher stack counts
  • Knife Dance does heavy AoE damage, stop the channel by using a CC
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Tanks point the Bonebreaking Strike frontal away from the group and move out of the effect
  • Jumps to a random player and does an Arrow Barrage frontal through them, stop the channel by using a CC
  • Arcane Blitz targets a random player gives a stacking magic buff, interrupt as many as you can and purge the buff if possible
  • If you have a DK in your group, these mobs are a strong Control Undead target
  • Avoid the 5yd AoE created by Phased Explosion
  • Bloodthirsty Leap targets a random player, loosely spread to avoid multiple applications of the bleed and try to CC the mob mid charge
  • This mini boss is immune to CC
  • Tanks point the Bonebreaking Strike frontal away from the group and move out of the effect

Illysanna Ravencrest Boss Fight

Ranged players stay spread to avoid Brutal Glaive from spreading to other party members.

The 3 players targeted by Dark Rush should make a small triangle near the boss to reduce the amount of Blazing Trail puddles on the platform. Note that this ability will always jump to the closest targeted player.

Tanks be aware of the large physical hit Vengeful Shear.

At full energy the boss jumps to the edge of the platform and summons 1 Soul-Torn Champion and 1 Risen Arcanist which are the same as the previously mentioned trash mobs, though the arcanist will target random players instead of just the tank so be sure to interrupt it.

After reaching full energy the boss will channel Eye Beams on a random ranged player until her energy is depleted. Try and run this on the edges of the room so the Felblazed Ground doesn’t take up too much space. Afterwards the boss returns to its normal phase.

Smashspite the Hateful Trash

  • Brutal Assault targets the tank, stop the channel by using a CC
  • Enrage at low health, soothe it off or focus the mob down
  • Drain Life targets a random player, interrupt or stop the channel by using a CC
  • Throw Priceless Artifact targets the tank, be aware if multiple of these casts overlap
  • “Drink” Ancient Potion gives the mob one of three potential buffs, can delay the cast with a CC but it will not stop it
  • Indigestion buff causes the mob to frontal the tank, can be stopped with a CC or avoided
  • Bowled Over! buff causes the mob to spin, melee players be aware and avoid these
  • Frenzy Potion buff drastically increases tank damage taken, use a defensive if needed
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Sic Bats! will cause nearby bats to fixate on a random player, make sure to kite if targeted by this ability and use AoE CC’s, slows, and defensives to assist
  • Felfrenzy buffs all nearby mobs, interrupt every cast

Smashspite the Hateful Boss Fight

Avoid soaking Hateful Charge if you already have a stack of the debuff unless you have a physical immunity (such as Evasion or Blessing of Protection) or are a tank player.

Be aware of knockbacks from Earthshaking Stomp and Hateful Charge.

Players targeted by Fel Vomit should try and aim the beam down the sides of the platform to avoid cluttering the area with Fel Vomitus.

For tanks, the boss gains Brutality based on the damage of his melee attacks. At 100 Brutality he uses Brutal Haymaker against the tank applying a 75% damage increase against them for 15s. Make sure you use a defensive for this hit.

Lord Kur’talos Ravencrest Trash

  • Coup de Grace targets the tank, be aware if multiple of these casts overlap and use a CC to prevent casts if needed
  • Jumps to a random player with Raven’s Dive, can be stopped with a CC or avoided

Lord Kur’talos Ravencrest Boss Fight

In Phase 1 you fight against Kur’Talos Ravencrest until you get him to 20%, with Latosius shooting abilities at players from the side of the arena.

Heal up the random player targeted by Shadow Bolt.

Avoid the Dark Blast line attack on the ground.

Stay away from the area Whirling Blade travels through.

Tanks get a stacking, infinite duration bleed in Phase 1 from Unerring Shear, so be aware of this as you progress into Phase 2.

In Phase 2 you fight against Dantalionax, with the boss fight ending when you defeat him. You will be empowered by Legacy of the Ravencrest shortly into the phase, increasing your damage, healing, and health by 300%.

Avoid the Cloud of Hypnosis puddles on the ground, magic dispel any player who touches them to remove the sleep effect.

DPS players swap to the Stinging Swarm and kill it as quickly as possible.

Shadow Bolt Volley deals a large hit to the party and applies a 10s DoT. Make sure to use a defensive ability on the very first cast in Phase 2 as it happens before you are buffed by Legacy of the Ravencrest.

When the boss uses Dreadlord’s Guile make sure you run along the edges of the room to avoid the multiple Dark Obliteration casts.

Black Rook Hold Mythic+ Dungeon Route

If you are using the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon, you can import this route using the following string:

Right at the beginning of the dungeon you’ll be faced with a fork, I recommend making your way down the right path as the mini boss in this direction, Lady Velandrus Ravencrest, is easier to handle in my opinion. Note that pull 1 here can be a little hard to get together, so make sure you interrupt the first cast from the Ghostly Councilor in G2 to make grouping easier. Keep following this pathway until you reach the first boss.

After some RP, you’ll be able to make your way through a library and up a winding staircase full of Rook Spiderlings. If you have a Blessing of Protection available or your tank has a lot of mobility, it’s possible to have your party wait in the library and have the tank run up and pull all the spiders down without getting too many stacks. If you’re worried about doing this, just have your entire party run up to the first cubby in the staircase, kill all the spiderlings you’ve pulled so far, then move on towards the top of the staircase afterwards. When doing pull 7, beware of the G16 patrol as the risen companion is extremely dangerous. Also note that pull 9 will jump down after a short RP when you defeat pull 8, and pull 10 will jump down once a player reaches their location.

Once you defeat Illysanna Ravencrest, you’ll need to make your way up another winding staircase, dodging boulders in the process. It’s possible to do this area in 2 pulls instead of 3 if you feel comfortable with your CC chains, otherwise I just recommend playing this area safe as it can get out of hand very quickly when the Wyrmtongue Tricksters get empowered. When you’re done, you have to dodge some more boulders before coming to the bat gauntlet, which you can handle in 2 ways. I recommend pulling the first 2 Felspite Dominators together, killing them, then pulling all the way through to the bosses room. Alternatively, you can kill the first one only, then pull the remaining 3 to the bosses room and use CDs to get them down. Both will work, just doing 3 of these at a time is significantly more dangerous which is why I recommend doing 2 and 2.

After you kill Smashspite, you’ll be able to back track a bit and make your way up some stairs towards the final boss. Again, it’s possible to do this area in 2 or even 1 pull instead of 3, just do what you feel comfortable with. Once you’re at the top you’ll be faced with Kur’talos Ravencrest and his dreadlord companion.
