Battle of Dazar'alor
Champion of the LightSingle Target
The usual tactic is to ignore the adds and just burn the boss.
Grong, the Jungle LordSingle Target / Cleave
It’s important to have an interrupt order for the different robots. As a mage you can easily shimmer towards them if they spawn far away, allowing you to reliably do the first one.
Fire has strong cleave, making this a good fight for us as the bosses are often close together or on top of other adds.
The biggest strength mages have in this fight is that during the Ring of Hostility maze phase we can easily pickup any of the Force Orbs and get to the end of the maze quickly to make that phase as easy as possible for the raid.
OpulenceSingle Target / AoE
For Opulence you want to pick Living Bomb, it’s great for bursting the adds that won’t live for long; the damage you deal with it will also splash to the boss, which is perfect for this fight.
As for the choice of gem selection:
- Mages are one of the better classes to take the Topaz gem as we keep stacking the gem buff even during Flames of Punishment by Ice blocking out side of the raid. By doing this you save your raid the problem of the first set of adds, which is usually the hardest one, by providing the raid buff from the gem.
- However, for maximum personal damage, you want to pick the Emerald gem as you can keep it on high stacks easily by using Shimmer effectively.
Conclave of the ChosenSingle Target / Cleave
On this fight you want to use Conflagration again as you can’t really make good use of the other options. Spellstealing the Gift of Wind that Pa’ku casts increases your haste by 45% and movement speed by 75% for 15s. This is really powerful and should be coordinated so that you can always Spellsteal it when it’s up. You can also pre Ice block the Kimbul’s Wrath which makes you immune to both the initial damage and the bleed debuff.
The most important job on this fight in Mythic difficulty is that you can dispel curses with Remove Curse. Bwonsamdi’s Wrath is a curse that makes a player un-healable and you can only remove this by dispelling it, so make sure to keep your eyes on your raid frames and help out your raid as much as you can.
King RastakhanSingle Target / Cleave
As with most of the other bosses, your best option is Conflagration here unless your guild struggles with killing the adds, then you can play Flame Patch. However, it won’t be that big of an increase.
You can both blink and Ice block Siegebreaker Roka's Meteor Leap to help the raid avoid taking any unnecessary damage in the first phase. You can also Ice block off Deathly Withering stacks that you gain from Bwonsamdi’s Aura of Death.
High Tinker MekkatorqueSingle Target
On this boss you want to play Conflagration again as it is a full Single Target fight. Depending on your raid's DPS you might also want to talent into Kindling as it could provide you an extra Combustion in the last phase; this is where the damage is the most important as the boss summons more robots than you can get rid off.
Fire is an excellent spec on this boss as you are completely mobile for most of the last phase, while also doing great damage as it is during execute health range. In the first phase you might not do very well, however the damage in first phase is not that important.
We have a lot of useful utility for this fight. We can blink the knock-up during Wormhole Generator, help others with slow fall, Ice Block off the damage debuffs if you get hit by them and easily get behind the pillars using Shimmer when we have Gigavolt Charge. However, it’s important to know that you cannot use Ice Block in the Gigavolt radiation zones left behind from the exploded Gigavolt Charges (in Mythic difficulty) as it will still deal damage to you and probably kill you.
Stormwall BlockadeSingle Target / Cleave
Fire is not very good on this boss fight, as it doesn’t offer anything special. We are not good with priority damage or split cleave, which this fight is basically made for.
Lady Jaina ProudmooreSingle Target
On Jaina the damage you deal in the first phases is just like Mekkatorque, not that important, but the last phase damage is where it’s really important and where fire execute really shines.
If you use Combustion and hit Jaina during the Wall of Ice intermission you can get another one in the end of the fight. Doing this will make you one of the best damage dealers during the last phase.
Crucible of Storms
The Restless Cabal2/3 Target Fight
Fire can do alright damage in this fight, assuming the bosses are stacked on top of each other for the entire fight.
In the end of the fight the execute damage you deal is also important as the shorter the fight is, the less Storm Essence orbs will spawn and cause a problem for your raid.
It’s also a good idea for a Mage to take the first interrupt on Witness the End as they can easily Shimmer into range and get it without problems while other classes could have problems reaching the first one in time.
Uu'natSingle Target / Cleave
This is kind of the Jaina/G’huun situation again, we will not do great damage in the first 2 phases, however in the last one that is the one that matters, we can do very well due to our execute.
We can Shimmer over the lasers, Ice Block the marks from Unstable Resonance, but make sure to not be in range of others, as it still does damage to everyone within 10 yards of you. It’s also easy to get to the relics to clear your marks using Shimmer and using Scorch to gain Frenetic Speed. But be careful, as of right now, you can’t blink over people with a mark different from you as it will count as a collision.
