Welcome to the Discipline Priest healing guide written by Joshpriest.

Discipline Priest is a healing spec that excels at dealing with large predictable damage intakes, and brings powerful utility tools to the table. The core gameplay of the discipline priest revolves around Atonement application and then dealing damage to heal through the Atonement buff.

As the most proactive healer in the game, Discipline priests heavily work around preparing for incoming damage by setting up Atonements on the raid prior to the damage. While the Discipline priest ramp up requires a lot of fight knowledge and foresight, the payoff is immense.

Alongside its powerful burst healing, Discipline priest also brings a lot of utility in the form of offensive purges (Dispel Magic and Mass Dispel) and Leap of Faith. Discipline priest also brings some very impactful damage reduction spells in the form of Pain Suppression, which is the strongest single target damage reduction spell in the game, alongside Power Word: Barrier, a 20% raid wide damage reduction. On top of all of this, Discipline’s natural focus on dealing damage leads to us having the highest DPS of any healer without doing much outside our normal priorities.

With incredibly high burst healing, powerful utility and strong supplementary DPS, the Discipline priest is one of the best progression healers in the game currently and a worthwhile addition to any raid comp.

What has changed

Disc Priest Patch 8.3 changes

  • 8.3 has a few tuning changes to Disc.
  • Schism now only increases the damage of priest spells. This is a fairly significant nerf to the burst dps potential of disc priest as previously you could use powerful dps trinkets and essences during schism for massive dps. Overall this change isn’t really significant to discs viability as a healer but might effect trinket and essence choice.
  • Atonement transfer % was reduced from 55% to 50%, this is just a flat nerf to discs healing, however is slightly offset by the following buff to Mastery: Grace
  • Mastery: Grace effectiveness increased by 12%. This makes mastery a more attractive stat as a lot of disc priest were forgoing it entirely for more damage and helps slightly offset the atonement % nerf.
